Ambroxol + Doxycycline

Uses of Ambroxol + Doxycycline

  • Ambroxol + Doxycycline is primarily used to manage a variety of respiratory tract infections like acute bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, and exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It belongs to the antibacterial and mucolytic group of medicines.

Side effects of Ambroxol + Doxycycline

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhoea

  • Abdominal pain

  • Skin rash

How Ambroxol + Doxycycline works

  • Ambroxol is a mucolytic agent. It breaks down mucopolysaccharides and mucoproteins present in the mucus in our respiratory tract. This breakdown reduces the thickness of the mucus, making it easier to expel it from the lungs through coughing. Additionally, this medicine encourages the production of surfactant which opens up airways and aids mucus clearance.

  • Doxycycline is a tetracycline antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. It does this by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit in bacteria. This prevents aminoacyl-tRNA from attaching to the mRNA-ribosome complex, effectively stopping bacterial growth and multiplication.
