Contraindications

• This combination may interact with antitussive medications (e.g., codeine, and pholcodine), antibiotics (e.g., tetracyclines, amphotericin B, and ampicillin) and charcoal.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdosing on Acetylcysteine + Ambroxol may lead to gastric distress including nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea. Consulting your doctor immediately is advisable in case of an overdose.

• If you forget to take a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double up the dosage to make up for the missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• To manage possible gastrointestinal issues such as nausea, vomiting, and stomach pain, taking the medicine after meals can help.

• Drinking plenty of fluids can also help enhance the mucolytic effect of the medicine.

• This combination may cause dizziness or drowsiness in some individuals. If you experience such symptoms, it's advisable to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until these effects subside.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• It should be used with caution during pregnancy after discussing with your doctor. As this medication is excreted in breast milk, lactating women should use it carefully after consulting their doctor.

• Acetylcysteine + Ambroxol should be used with caution in patients with peptic ulcers due to the potential risk of gastric mucosal damage. Dosages may need to be adjusted for patients with hepatic or renal impairment. Caution should also be exercised by patients who have a history of allergies to either acetylcysteine or ambroxol.
