• Alfacalcidol + Calcium Carbonate is available for oral administration in the form of tablets (chewable and effervescent), capsules and oral suspensions.

Age and Dose Restrictions

• This medication is primarily intended for adults of age above 18 years.

Contraindications

• This medicine is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcaemia (excess calcium in the blood), hypervitaminosis D (excessive vitamin D levels), and kidney stones or tissue calcification.

Other Medications to Avoid

• This combination may interact with thiazide diuretics (such as hydrochlorothiazide), corticosteroids (like prednisone), and Digitalis glycosides (such as digoxin).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• If an overdose occurs, it may cause symptoms like excessive thirst, frequent urination, nausea, vomiting, constipation, muscle weakness, or confusion. In such cases, medical help should be sought immediately.

• If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, you should not take two doses at once to make up for a missed dose.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drinking plenty of water may help manage some gastrointestinal side effects like constipation.

• If you feel thirsty more often than usual, try to stay hydrated by drinking adequate water.

• Alfacalcidol + Calcium Carbonate may cause dizziness or confusion in some people. It is advised not to drive or operate heavy machinery if you experience such symptoms.

• This medicine should only be used during pregnancy and lactation if it is clearly necessary and recommended by the doctor.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with kidney disease should use this medicine with caution as they might be at increased risk of hypercalcaemia. Regular monitoring of blood calcium levels is advised in such cases.

• Limit intake of oxalate-rich foods like spinach, rhubarb, and sweet potatoes as they can bind calcium and reduce its absorption.

• Get regular sunlight exposure for natural Vitamin D synthesis which aids calcium absorption.
