Ambroxol + Guaiphenesin

COUGH COLD PREPARATION

Uses of Ambroxol + Guaiphenesin

  • Ambroxol + Guaiphenesin belongs to the class of 'expectorants' and is used to treat productive cough linked to respiratory disorders such as acute bronchitis, acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis (AECB), pneumonia, and asthmatic bronchitis.

Side effects of Ambroxol + Guaiphenesin

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting

How Ambroxol + Guaiphenesin works

  • Ambroxol is known as a mucolytic agent, which means it helps to break down mucus. Excessive Nitric oxide (NO) in the airways can lead to inflammation and other issues. Ambroxol has been found to block the NO-driven activation of soluble guanylate cyclase. This inhibition might reduce the excessive production of mucus, thus lowering phlegm thickness and improving the movement of bronchial secretions.
  • Guaifenesin can irritate gastric receptors and trigger parasympathetic reflexes, leading to the release of thinner mucus from glands. This may induce coughing and help clear thick mucus from blocked airways, temporarily easing breathing difficulties.
