Ammonium Chloride + Diphenhydramine

COUGH COLD PREPARATION

Uses of Ammonium Chloride + Diphenhydramine

  • Ammonium Chloride + Diphenhydramine is used to relieve the symptoms of common coughs, including dry or tickly coughs, and helps ease upper respiratory congestion.
  • Additionally, it can promote restful sleep.

Side effects of Ammonium Chloride + Diphenhydramine

  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness
  • Dry mouth
  • Headache
  • Stomach upset

How Ammonium Chloride + Diphenhydramine works

  • Ammonium chloride acts as an expectorant by irritating the bronchial mucosa. This irritation prompts the respiratory tract to produce fluid, making coughing more effective.
  • Diphenhydramine hydrochloride is an antihistamine with antitussive, antihistaminic, and anticholinergic properties that help suppress coughing urges. It also reduces nasal and chest secretions. Studies indicate its antitussive effect is separate from its sedative effect, making it suitable for nighttime use to aid sleep.
