How Brimonidine + Timolol works

  • Brimonidine + Timolol is antibacterial and anti-glaucoma agents.
  • Brimonidine is an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist. It acts primarily on the alpha-2 adrenergic receptors in the eye. This results in decreased production of aqueous humor. It is the clear fluid that fills the front part of the eye, and its regulation is critical for maintaining intraocular pressure (IOP).
  • Timolol is a beta-blocker. It works by blocking the beta receptors in the ciliary body of the eye. This reduces the synthesis of aqueous humor. Timolol also enhances the outflow of aqueous humor, which contributes to lowering intraocular pressure.
