Carbazochrome

Uses of Carbazochrome

  • Carbazochrome is primarily used for managing various types of bleeding disorders like gastrointestinal bleeding, urinary tract bleeding, haemophilia A and B (inherited blood disorders), von Willebrand disease (genetic bleeding disorder), thrombocytopenia and platelet function disorders. It belongs to the group of anti-haemorrhagic medicines.

Side effects of Carbazochrome

  • Nausea

  • Vomiting

  • Diarrhoea

  • Abdominal pain

  • Mild pain at injection site

How Carbazochrome works

  • Carbazochrome is an anti-haemorrhagic agent.

  • It works by promoting blood clotting and reducing bleeding. Specifically, it boosts the process of coagulation by increasing the clumping together (aggregation) and sticking (adhesion) of platelets, which are blood cells that help in clotting. This is achieved by Carbazochrome interacting with certain receptors (α-adrenoreceptors) found on the surface of platelets.

  • Acting as a chemical messenger, Carbazochrome speeds up the clotting process to help manage acute blood loss from damaged blood vessels or open wounds.
