How Ceftazidime + Sulbactam works

  • Ceftazidime + Sulbactam combination belongs to the group of cephalosporin antibiotics.

  • Ceftazidime is a type of medicine known as a third-generation cephalosporin. It destroys bacteria by interfering with their ability to form cell walls. The cell walls are necessary for bacteria to survive, so preventing their formation, leads to the death of the bacterial cells.

  • Sulbactam is a beta-lactamase inhibitor. It works by blocking the action of enzymes produced by bacteria called beta-lactamases. These enzymes can break down some antibiotics and make them ineffective. Together, these two medicines fight against bacterial infections more effectively than either could alone.
