• Levamisole is available in a variety of formulations for both oral (such as tablets, syrups), and intramuscular or subcutaneous administration (injectable solutions) and topical use(such as creams or gels).

Age and dose restrictions

• Levamisole is meant for both adults and children. However, the specific dosage for children is usually determined based on their weight.

Contraindications

• Patients with a history of agranulocytosis, leukopenia, or thrombocytopenia should not use Levamisole. Levamisole is also contraindicated in patients with severe liver or kidney disease.

Other medications to avoid

• Levamisole can interact with anticoagulants (such as warfarin, and heparin), and immunosuppressive medications (such as cyclosporine, and tacrolimus).

Overdose and missed dose

• Overdose of Levamisole can cause severe neurological effects including confusion, agitation, and seizures. If you suspect an overdose, seek immediate medical help.
• If you miss a dose of Levamisole, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and continue with your regular schedule.

Management of side effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve after discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drinking plenty of fluids can help manage gastrointestinal side effects such as nausea and diarrhoea.
• If you experience dizziness or weakness, avoid activities that require mental alertness.
• Resting and staying well-hydrated may help manage headaches.

Use in driving and operating machinery

• Levamisole can cause dizziness, confusion, and other neurological side effects. Therefore, it is advisable to avoid driving or operating heavy machinery while taking this medication.

Use in pregnancy and lactation

• Levamisole should not be used in pregnant women unless the benefits outweigh the risks, as it may cause harm to the foetus.

Caution in other conditions

• Levamisole should be used with caution in patients with liver or kidney disease, as dose adjustments may be necessary. Patients with certain blood disorders should also exercise caution while using Levamisole.

Special dietary and lifestyle recommendations

• Maintain good hygiene practices such as washing your hands regularly, especially before eating and after using the toilet.
• Avoid contact with soil that may be contaminated with human faeces.
• Do not walk barefoot on soil suspected of being contaminated with parasites.
