Loteprednol + Moxifloxacin

Uses of Loteprednol + Moxifloxacin

  • Loteprednol + Moxifloxacin is primarily used to manage bacterial eye infections with associated inflammation. It belongs to the group of corticosteroids and fluoroquinolone antibiotics.

  • Secondary uses of this combination include its prophylactic use in eye surgery to prevent postoperative bacterial infections and manage ocular inflammatory conditions such as blepharitis, episcleritis, scleritis, keratitis, iritis, and cyclitis.

Side effects of Loteprednol + Moxifloxacin

  • Ocular discomfort (e.g., burning or stinging)

  • Photophobia (sensitivity to light)

  • Conjunctival hyperaemia (redness of the white part of the eye)

  • Dry eye

How Loteprednol + Moxifloxacin works

  • Loteprednol + Moxifloxacin is an ophthalmic medication combination.

  • Loteprednol is a corticosteroid. It reduces swelling and inflammation in the eyes by suppressing the body's immune response and inhibiting pro-inflammatory signals, thus reducing redness and pain that can occur with eye infections.

  • Moxifloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic, kills bacteria by interfering with the enzymes that cause DNA to rewind after being copied, which stops DNA replication and repair in bacterial cells, thus causing them to die.
