Age and Dose Restrictions

• This combination is not recommended for use in individuals under 18 years of age. 

Contraindications

• Metformin + Voglibose is contraindicated in patients with severe kidney or liver dysfunction​, metabolic acidosis​ , diabetic pre-coma, severe infections​, intestinal obstruction​, allergy to metformin, or voglibose.

Medications to Avoid

• Caution is advised when combining Metformin + Voglibose with antifungals (ketoconazole)​, antidepressants (fluoxetine)​, antihypertensives (amlodipine)​, diuretics (furosemide)​, thyroid medications (levothyroxine)​, corticosteroids (prednisolone)​, phenothiazines (serentil)​, estrogens (estradiol)​, oral contraceptives (norethindrone), anticonvulsants (phenytoin)​, and antiepileptics (ranolazine)​.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Taking more than the prescribed dose can lead to serious health issues, including lactic acidosis. Seek immediate medical attention in case of an overdose.​
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it's near the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.​

Management of Side Effects

• To manage hypoglycemia, consume a quick source of sugar such as fruit juice, candy, or non-diet soda. Afterward, have a balanced meal to maintain blood sugar levels. For gastrointestinal side effects like nausea or diarrhea, taking the medication with food may help. If side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor for possible adjustments to your treatment plan.​

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• This combination may cause dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness until you know how the medication affects you.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Metformin + Voglibose is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Consult your healthcare provider for alternative treatments.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Exercise caution when using this combination if you have diabetic ketoacidosis​, pancreatitis​, joint pain​, irregular heartbeat​, or Vitamin B12 deficiency​. Elderly patients should use this medication cautiously due to the increased risk of side effects.​

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Incorporate foods with a low glycemic index, such as green leafy vegetables, whole grains, berries, citrus fruits, chia seeds, bitter gourd, and extra virgin olive oil.​
• Engage in regular physical activity, which can help improve insulin sensitivity and blood sugar control.
• Watch your sodium intake and not exceed 5 gm daily to avoid heart conditions with diabetes
