  • This combination is intended to be used by adults. 

Contraindications 

  • This combination is contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to metoprolol or ramipril or any beta blocker. It is also contraindicated in patients with slow heart rate, second- or third-degree heart block cardiogenic shock, heart failure, sick sinus syndrome (unless a permanent pacemaker is in place) and in diabetes patients taking aliskiren.

Medications To Avoid With This Drug

  • Avoid taking antihypertensives (sacubitril and valsartan), antidiabetic agents (vildagliptin, insulin and sulfonylurea derivatives), antidepressants (fluoxetine and paroxetine), antiarrhythmics (quinidine and propafenone) with Metoprolol + Ramipril. These medications may alter the safety and effectiveness of this combination.

Overdose And Missed Dose

  • Overdose can cause hypotension, cardiogenic shock, slow heart rate, electrolyte disturbances, and kidney failure. These symptoms need to be managed as an emergency in a hospital setting. Therefore, strict adherence to the prescribed dose is essential.
  • If you miss a dose of this combination, take it as soon as you remember. But, if the next dose is near, skip the missed dose and resume the regular dosing regime.

Management Of Side Effects

  • Take this combination with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects and continue taking it as prescribed. If side effects worsen or persist, consult your doctor for a possible treatment plan adjustment.

Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

  • This combination can make you feel dizzy and lightheaded. It is not recommended to drive, operate machinery, or do other activities that require mental alertness or coordination after taking this combination. 

Use In Pregnancy And Lactation

  • This combination is not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Caution In Other Conditions

  • Caution is advised in older adults and patients with angioedema, hypotension, patients with hyper-stimulated renin-angiotensin system, liver and kidney impairment, bronchospastic diseases, pheochromocytoma, patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery, diabetes, and hyperthyroidism.

Special Dietary And Lifestyle Recommendation

  • Too much salt can increase blood pressure, so limit your intake to less than 5 gm daily. Avoid adding extra salt to your food.
  • Drinking too much alcohol can increase blood pressure, so limiting your intake can lower the risk of hypertension.
  • Exercise regularly to lower blood pressure. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise daily.
  • Being overweight makes you susceptible to increased blood pressure, so maintain a healthy weight through diet and regular exercise.
  • Keep track of your blood pressure and share your reports with the doctor for the treatment plan.
