Gemcal Capsule 15

• To prevent Osteoprosis: Gemcal capsule prevents bone loss, maintains bone density, and reduces the risk of osteoporosis-related fractures. It helps the body absorb calcium, provides additional calcium for bone health, and supports bone formation.

• Swallow the Gemcal capsule whole with a glass of water.
• Do not crush or chew the capsule, as this may affect the way the medication is absorbed in the body.
• Do not change your capsule dose or take them more often than prescribed.

• Gemcal capsule should be administered orally.

The composition of Gemcal capsule includes three active ingredients: Calcitriol (0.25 mcg), Calcium Carbonate (500 mg), and Zinc (7.5 mg). These capsules are generally well-tolerated but may not be suitable for everyone. It is contraindicated in patients with high calcium levels in their blood (hypercalcemia). This capsule may further increase calcium levels and lead to complications.

The activities of the active ingredients in Gemcal capsule are as follows:

• Calcitriol: Calcitriol is a form of vitamin D that helps the body absorb calcium from the diet and maintain proper calcium levels in the blood, which are essential for healthy bones.
• Calcium carbonate: It is a source of elemental calcium. Calcium is a vital mineral for building and maintaining strong bones. It plays a crucial role in bone formation and helps prevent bone loss. Calcium carbonate provides the body with additional calcium to support bone health and prevent osteoporosis.
• Zinc: It is a trace mineral that contributes to various processes in the body, including bone health. It helps form and mineralise bones, which is important for maintaining their strength and integrity.

• Store this medicine at a temperature below 25 ºC.
• Protect it from light and moisture.
• Keep Gemcal capsule away from children.
• Do not use this medicine after the expiry date has passed.

• Ensure you consume enough calcium-rich foods, such as dairy products (milk, yogurt, cheese), leafy green vegetables, tofu, and fortified plant-based milk alternatives. 
• Ensure sufficient vitamin D intake, as it helps with calcium absorption. Spend time outdoors in sunlight.
• Consume vitamin D-rich foods (fatty fish, egg yolks), and consider vitamin D supplements under medical guidance.
• Excessive alcohol consumption and high caffeine intake can contribute to bone loss. Limit alcohol and caffeine intake to moderate levels.
• Smoking is detrimental to bone health and increases the risk of fractures. Quitting smoking can help protect your bones and improve overall health.
• Consult with your doctor about bone density testing, especially if you are at risk for osteoporosis. It can help assess your bone health and guide preventive measures or treatment.

• Do not exceed the duration of the Gemcal capsule until prescribed by a doctor.
• Patients undergoing dialysis should consult a doctor before taking this capsule.
• Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking.
• Inform the doctor if you continue to experience side effects due to this medicine.
