Karpic Lotion is a disinfectant medication used to treat pityriasis versicolor (tinea versicolor). It is a fungal skin infection caused by the yeast malassezia furfur (pityrosporum ovale).
Pityriasis versicolor appears as discoloured patches on the skin, which can be lighter or darker than the surrounding skin. These patches may be slightly scaly or flaky and often occur on the chest, back, neck, and upper arms. They may become more noticeable with sun exposure due to reduced tanning in the affected areas.
This skin condition is not harmful but causes aesthetic concerns. It is more common in warm and humid climates. This lotion is combined with other topical or oral antifungal medications to treat pityriasis versicolor. Any allergy to this lotion, existing diseases and other ongoing medications should also be brought to the notice of your doctor before this lotion is prescribed to you.
