Laretol Capsule 10

Laretol Capsule is used for the following:

• Managing secondary hyperparathyroidism and accompanying metabolic bone disease in patients with moderate to severe chronic kidney disease not on dialysis

• Management of hypocalcemia and metabolic bone disease in patients undergoing chronic renal dialysis

• Controlling hypoparathyroidism and its related hypocalcemia

• Prevention and management of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and elderly patients

• Prevention of vitamin D deficiency when dietary intake does not meet the requirements

Follow these instructions while taking Laretol Capsule:

• Swallow the capsule whole with a glass of water.

• Do not crush or chew the capsule.

• You can take this medicine with or without food.

• Always follow your doctor's advice regarding the dosage.

• Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting your doctor first.

Laretol Capsule is taken orally.

Laretol Capsule contains calcitriol (0.25 mcg), which works on your body as follows:

• Regulates Calcium Absorption: Calcitriol increases the absorption of calcium from your intestines into your bloodstream.

• Stimulates Bone Calcium Mobilisation: It helps mobilise calcium from your bones back into the bloodstream when more calcium is needed.

• Increases Renal Tubular Reabsorption of Calcium: Calcitriol also plays a role in reabsorbing more calcium back into the body from the kidneys, reducing the amount of calcium excreted in urine.

• Balances Blood Calcium Levels: By performing all these roles, calcitriol ultimately helps balance calcium levels within your blood.

• Keep Laretol Capsule in a dry location, shielded from light and moisture.

• Store at a temperature not exceeding 25°C.

• Always place it out of the reach and sight of children.

• Use it prior to the expiry date stated on the packaging.

• Maintain an adequate intake of calcium and phosphorus in your diet. This supports the function of Laretol Capsule in managing blood calcium levels, crucial for those with kidney disease or hypoparathyroidism.

• Ensure adequate hydration. This is particularly important for individuals with a history of kidney stones, as this medicine might increase urinary calcium excretion.
