Orofer XT Tablet is used for the following:

• Management and prevention of iron deficiency anaemia

• Addressing and preventing folic acid deficiency

• Supplementation during pregnancy to fulfil increased iron and folic acid needs

• Ensuring adequate nutritional intake in the lactation period

• Meeting heightened iron and folic acid requirements during heavy menstrual bleeding

• Providing necessary supplementation in chronic kidney disease

• Supplementing nutritional needs in malabsorption disorders.

Here's how you should take Orofer XT Tablet:

• Carefully adhere to the dosage and timing instructions provided by your doctor for this medication.

• Follow the dietary recommendations given by your doctor.

Orofer XT Tablet is taken orally.

Orofer XT Tablet contains two active ingredients:

• Ferrous Ascorbate (100 mg): This is a form of iron salt where ferrous iron is complexed with Vitamin C (ascorbic acid). When ingested, it dissociates into ferrous ions (Fe2+) and ascorbic acid in your gastrointestinal tract. The presence of ascorbic acid enhances the absorption of iron by reducing it to a form which the body can readily absorb. The absorbed iron is then used by your body for the synthesis of haemoglobin, myoglobin, and various enzymes that require iron.

• Folic Acid (1.5 mg): Also known as Vitamin B9, this water-soluble vitamin is essential for DNA synthesis and red blood cell formation. Upon absorption, folic acid gets converted into its active form called tetrahydrofolate (THF), which acts as a coenzyme in various metabolic reactions. It helps in the maturation of red blood cells and prevents megaloblastic anaemia caused by folate deficiency.

• Keep the medicine in a cool, dry place, safe from moisture and direct sunlight.

• Always ensure that Orofer XT Tablet is out of reach and sight of children.

• Check the expiry date before using the medicine and never use it beyond its expiry date.

• Include iron-rich foods in your daily diet. Foods high in iron include meat, poultry, fish, beans and leafy green vegetables. This will help manage conditions like anemia, which Orofer XT Tablet is prescribed for.

• Exposure to humid conditions may soften the tablets, as they are hygroscopic in nature.

• Pregnant women should ensure they have a balanced diet with a good source of folic acid, such as dark green vegetables and legumes. This will complement the effects of Orofer XT Tablet, which provides folic acid to support healthy fetal development.
