Age and Dose Restrictions

• This medicine is primarily intended for adults.

Contraindications

• Alendronate / Alendronic Acid is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to any components of the formulation.
• It should not be taken by those with certain oesophageal abnormalities such as strictures or achalasia.
• Patients who are unable to remain upright (sitting or standing) for at least 30 minutes should also avoid this medicine.
• It is contraindicated in individuals diagnosed with hypocalcaemia.

Other Medications to Avoid

• This medicine can interact with products containing calcium, magnesium, aluminium, or other minerals such as calcium supplements and antacids and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (e.g., naproxen, ibuprofen, aspirin).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Alendronate/Alendronic Acid may result in conditions like hypocalcaemia, hypophosphatemia, and upper gastrointestinal adverse events. If an overdose is suspected, immediate medical attention should be sought.
• If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as it is remembered. However, if it's nearly time for the next dose, the missed dose should be skipped. Double dosing should be avoided.

Management of Side Effects

• Most side effects are temporary, generally harmless, and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.
• Drinking plenty of water may help manage side effects like constipation and dry mouth.
• Mild exercise, such as walking, may assist in managing musculoskeletal pain.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Alendronate/Alendronic Acid does not typically affect one's ability to drive or operate machinery. However, some people may experience dizziness as a side effect. If this occurs, avoid driving or operating machinery until the dizziness subsides.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• The safety of Alendronate/Alendronic Acid during pregnancy and lactation has not been established. It is advisable to consult a doctor before using this medicine during these periods.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Individuals with kidney disease and low calcium levels may need to use Alendronate/Alendronic Acid with caution.

• Engage in weight-bearing exercises like walking, jogging or lifting weights to help strengthen your bones.
• Ensure adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D through diet or supplements, as both are crucial for bone health.
