• Fondaparinux is available as an injection administered subcutaneously i.e. just under the skin.

Age and Dose Restrictions

• Fondaparinux is intended for use in adults. It is not generally recommended for use in children or adolescents.

Contraindications

• Fondaparinux is contraindicated in patients with active major bleeding. It should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment as it can increase the risk of bleeding.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Fondaparinux may interact with other anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin), antiplatelet agents (e.g., clopidogrel) and thrombolytic medicines (e.g., alteplase).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Fondaparinux is unlikely as a healthcare professional administers it.

• If you miss a dose of Fondaparinux, consult your doctor for the next appointment. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double up on doses.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• To manage pain at the injection site, applying a cold pack may help.

• In case of nausea, taking the medicine with food may help.

• If a headache occurs, resting and drinking plenty of fluids might be beneficial.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Fondaparinux is not known to directly affect the ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience any side effects, such as dizziness or fatigue, avoid these activities.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• The use of Fondaparinux during pregnancy and breastfeeding should be decided by your doctor, after considering the potential risks and benefits. Always consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Caution should be exercised when using Fondaparinux in patients with moderate to severe kidney disease as it may increase the risk of bleeding.

• It is essential to monitor for signs of bleeding. Report any unusual bruising, prolonged bleeding from cuts, or blood in urine or stool to your doctor immediately.
