Dosage Forms Available

• Lidocaine / Lignocaine + Metronidazole + Sucralfate is available as a cream, ointment or gel for external use.

• It is applied topically to the affected area around the anus (perianal region).

Age and Dose Restrictions

• This combination medication is meant for adults and children over 12 years of age.

Contraindications

• This medicine is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to lidocaine, other local anaesthetics, or metronidazole.

• It is also contraindicated in patients with deep wounds or puncture injuries in the application area and active sexually transmitted infections in the application area.

Other Medications to Avoid

• This combination may interact with other local anaesthetics (such as bupivacaine, ropivacaine), anticoagulants (such as warfarin, heparin), H2 antagonists (like cimetidine, ranitidine), and certain anti-seizure medicines (such as phenytoin, phenobarbital).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdose of Lidocaine / Lignocaine + Metronidazole + Sucralfate is unlikely as it is intended for external use only. Using the prescribed dosage is recommended to avoid any side effects.

• If you miss a dose of this medication, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not apply double the amount to make up for a missed dose.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• To manage burning, stinging, itching, or dryness at the application site, you can try applying a moisturizer after the medication has been absorbed.

• To manage rectal irritation or rash, keep the area clean and dry. Avoid the use of harsh soaps or wipes.

• If you experience a metallic taste in your mouth, drinking plenty of water or chewing sugar-free gum may help.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• This medication does not usually affect your ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. However, if you feel dizzy or disoriented after applying this medicine, avoid such activities.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• The use of Lidocaine / Lignocaine + Metronidazole + Sucralfate during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended unless advised by your doctor.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with severe liver disease should exercise caution when using this combination medication due to metronidazole's known potential for liver toxicity.

Special Dietary and Lifestyle Recommendations

• Eat a high-fibre diet to prevent constipation, which can worsen anal fissures and haemorrhoids.

• Avoid straining during bowel movements; take your time.

• Regularly exercise to promote healthy bowel movements.

• Avoid sitting for long periods; it can increase pressure on the veins in the anus.
