Age and Dose Restrictions

Contraindications

• Miglitol is contraindicated in individuals who have a known hypersensitivity or allergy to the medicine. It is also contraindicated in patients with inflammatory bowel disease, colonic ulceration, partial intestinal obstruction, or chronic intestinal diseases with marked digestion or absorption disorders.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Miglitol may interact with intestinal adsorbents (such as charcoal), and digestive enzyme preparations containing carbohydrate-splitting enzymes (like amylase and pancreatin).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• An overdose of Miglitol will not result in hypoglycemia. However, if you suspect an overdose, it's essential to consult your doctor for advice and possible symptomatic treatment.

• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Management of Side Effects

• Most side effects of Miglitol are temporary and generally benign; they tend to resolve when discontinuing the medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• To manage gastrointestinal side effects like flatulence, diarrhoea, and abdominal pain, try taking Miglitol with meals.

• There's no evidence to suggest that Miglitol affects the ability to drive or operate heavy machinery. However, if you experience any drowsiness or dizziness, avoid such activities.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Miglitol should be used during pregnancy only if needed. It is not known if Miglitol is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when administered to nursing women. Always consult your doctor before using this medicine during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

• Patients with severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease should not take Miglitol as it may adversely affect their condition.
