Contraindications

• Risperidone + Trihexyphenidyl is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to either of the medicines. It is also not recommended for patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, obstructive uropathy (a disorder of the urinary tract), gastrointestinal obstruction, myasthenia gravis, and tachycardia (fast heart rate).

• This combination can interact with other anticholinergics (like oxybutynin and atropine), antihypertensives (like lisinopril and amlodipine), CNS depressants (likelorazepam and zolpidem), levodopa and dopamine agonists (like pramipexole and ropinirole), CYP2D6 inhibitors (like fluoxetine and paroxetine), and CYP3A4 inducers (like carbamazepine and phenytoin).

Overdose and Missed Dose

• Overdosing on Risperidone + Trihexyphenidyl might lead to symptoms like excessive drowsiness, dry mouth, large pupils, flushing, fever, shaking, confusion, hallucinations or seizures. In such cases, immediate medical attention should be sought.

• If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered, unless it is almost time for the next dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor.

• Drinking plenty of fluids can help manage dry mouth and constipation.

• For dizziness, try getting up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• Risperidone + Trihexyphenidyl may cause drowsiness or dizziness, affecting the ability to drive or operate machinery. Avoid these activities if such symptoms occur.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• The use of Risperidone + Trihexyphenidyl during pregnancy and breastfeeding should only be done if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the foetus or child. It is advised to consult a doctor before using this medicine in these conditions.

Caution in Other Conditions

• Patients with liver or kidney impairment, seizure disorders, heart conditions, and dementia-related conditions should exercise caution while taking Risperidone + Trihexyphenidyl.
