Tranexamic Acid is an antifibrinolytic agent that prevents blood clot breakdown. It works by binding to the lysine binding sites of plasminogen, which is responsible for the breakdown of fibrin, a protein essential for blood clot formation. By inhibiting the action of plasminogen, it helps stabilise blood clots and prevent excessive bleeding. In menstrual bleeding, it is thought to reduce bleeding by inhibiting the breakdown of fibrin in the lining of the uterus.
