Canditral SB Capsule is classified as an antifungal medication. It is prescribed for treating various fungal infections, catering to immunocompromised and non-immunocompromised patients. These infections include blastomycosis, whether pulmonary or extrapulmonary, histoplasmosis in various forms, and aspergillosis, both pulmonary and extrapulmonary.

This capsule is also used in non-immunocompromised patients to treat onychomycosis involving both toenails and fingernails due to dermatophytes (tinea unguium).

Before using this capsule, you must notify your doctor if you have kidney or liver issues, as well as heart problems like heart failure. This capsule is not advisable if your immune system is compromised.

Canditral SB Capsule is included in the following conditions:

Both pulmonary and extrapulmonary forms of Blastomycosis
Histoplasmosis, including chronic cavitary pulmonary disease and disseminated nonmeningeal histoplasmosis
Pulmonary and extrapulmonary aspergillosis, especially in patients intolerant of amphotericin B therapy
Onychomycosis [Toenail and fingernail involvement due to dermatophytes (tinea unguium)].

Directions for Use of Canditral Sb Capsule 10

Don't crush or break this capsule. Just swallow as it is.
It's a good idea to take them with some food. This can help your body absorb the medicine better.
Try to take the capsule at the same time every day. This helps the medicine work more effectively.

Canditral SB capsule contains the following component:

Itraconazole (50 mg): It is an azole that interferes with the synthesis of ergosterol, a crucial component of fungal cell membranes. This disruption weakens the fungal cell membrane, making it more susceptible to damage. By inhibiting ergosterol production, itraconazole inhibits fungal growth. Without a stable cell membrane, fungi struggle to maintain their structural integrity and reproduce. Itraconazole further disrupts fungal cell function by affecting various enzymes and processes. This damages the fungal cell's ability to carry out essential functions, ultimately leading to its death.

Pregnancy

This medicine should only be used during pregnancy if prescribed by a doctor. It is essential to consult your doctor before taking this medication while pregnant.

Breastfeeding

This capsule is generally not recommended for breastfeeding women because a small amount of this medicine can pass into breast milk. It's advisable to consult your doctor before taking it while breastfeeding.

Alcohol

It is advisable to avoid alcohol if you are taking this capsule to avoid unwanted side effects.

Liver

Antiarrhythmics like digoxin, dofetilide, quinidine, or disopyramide, when taken alongside this capsule, may result in elevated levels of these drugs in the bloodstream.
Anticonvulsants such as carbamazepine, when taken with this capsule, can lead to the risk of increased plasma concentration of these medications.
Anti-HIV agents like indinavir, ritonavir, saquinavir, and maraviroc can elevate the plasma concentration of anti-HIV agents when taken with this capsule.
Antineoplastics like busulfan, docetaxel, and vinca alkaloids may lead to higher levels of these drugs in the blood when taken with this capsule.
Antipsychotics such as pimozide, when used concomitantly with this capsule, can lead to increased plasma concentration of antipsychotics.
Benzodiazepines like alprazolam, diazepam, midazolam, or triazolam, may have enhanced plasma concentration when taken with this capsule.
Calcium channel blockers like nisoldipine, felodipine, or verapamil may have elevated levels in the body when taken with this capsule.
Gastrointestinal motility agents like cisapride may increase plasma concentration when taken concomitantly with this capsule.
HMG CoA-reductase inhibitors such as atorvastatin, cerivastatin, lovastatin, and simvastatin can have increased plasma concentrations when taken with this capsule.
Immunosuppressants like cyclosporine, tacrolimus, or sirolimus may have increased plasma concentration when taken with this capsule.
Oral hypoglycemics like repaglinide may have an effect on their plasma concentration when taken with this medicine.
Opiate analgesics like fentanyl or levacetylmethadol (evomethadyl) may have increased plasma concentration when taken with this medication.
Polyene antifungals like amphotericin B may have elevated levels when taken with this capsule.
Anticonvulsants, like carbamazepine and phenobarbital, may have decreased plasma concentration when taken with this capsule.

Cardiac dysrhythmias: This capsule may pose a risk of exacerbating cardiac dysrhythmias.
Hearing loss: For individuals with hearing loss, particularly related to medications affecting the inner ear, Canditral SB Capsule should be taken cautiously.
Neuropathy: This capsule may aggravate the condition.
Kidney issues: This medicine may worsen kidney problems.
Liver problems: This capsule can aggravate liver problems.
Congestive heart failure: This medicine can increase the risk of heart failure.
Peripheral oedema: This capsule may impact individuals experiencing peripheral oedema, a condition characterised by the swelling of extremities.
Pulmonary oedema: For individuals with pulmonary oedema, a condition involving fluid accumulation in the lungs, the use of this capsule should be approached cautiously.
