Neofost Injection is used for the following:

• Controlling and preventing generalised tonic-clonic status epilepticus, a condition where seizures are continuous

• Managing seizures during neurosurgery to ensure patient stability

• Preventing and treating seizures that may occur after neurosurgery, aiding recovery

• Assisting in the management of seizures in patients who have suffered severe head injury

Administer Neofost Injection as follows:

• This injection is administered by a healthcare professional.

• Ensure the area of injection is clean and prepared before administration.

• Upon opening the injection pack, use it immediately and discard any remaining portion.

Neofost Injection is administered intravenously or via an intramuscular route.

Neofost Injection contains a single active ingredient, Fosphenytoin (75 mg). Here's how it works:

• Conversion to Phenytoin: Fosphenytoin is a pro-medicine, meaning it is converted into the active medicine, phenytoin, once inside the body.

• Stabilisation of Electrical Activity: Phenytoin works by stabilising the electrical activity in the brain. It does this by blocking the sodium channels on neurons, which reduces the influx of sodium ions, leading to an overproduction of repetitive action potentials.

• Seizure Prevention: By preventing the brain cells from firing rapidly and uncontrollably, phenytoin helps stop and prevent seizures, effectively managing the symptoms of conditions like status epilepticus and reducing seizure occurrence during and after neurosurgery.

• Store Neofost Injection at a steady temperature between 20°C and 25°C.

• Keep it shielded from light and avoid freezing.

• Once opened, use the injection immediately and discard any remaining content.
