CompositionOtiflox New Ear Drops is a combination ear medicine used to treat bacterial and fungal infections of the outer ear (otitis externa) with pain, swelling and discharge. It is a combination medicine containing neomycin (an antibiotic), clotrimazole (an antifungal), beclomethasone (a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation) and lignocaine (a local anaesthetic for pain relief), and belongs to a class of medicines called combination ear preparations.
This medicine works by killing susceptible bacteria and fungi in the ear canal while reducing redness and swelling and numbing the pain. Wash your hands, tilt your head to the side, put in the number of drops your doctor has prescribed, and stay in this position for a short while. Avoid touching the dropper tip to the ear or any surface, and use it in the ear only.
Keep the ear dry while bathing, avoid inserting cotton buds or sharp objects into the ear canal, and gently wipe away excess liquid from the outer ear to aid recovery. Use it for the full prescribed time, as antibiotic resistance can develop with incomplete or unnecessary use.
Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have a perforated eardrum or active ear discharge, as it should not be used without advice from an ear, nose and throat (ENT) specialist. Also tell your doctor if you are allergic to any antibiotic, or if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, and seek advice if ear irritation becomes severe.
