Shiokem Tablet is used for the following:

• Management of low sodium levels in the blood, also known as hyponatremia.

• Helping patients with heart failure to maintain appropriate sodium levels.

• Assisting in correcting sodium imbalance in liver cirrhosis.

• Use in cases of Syndrome of Inappropriate Antidiuretic Hormone (SIADH) to rectify sodium concentrations.

• Increasing sodium levels by promoting free water clearance by the kidneys.

Follow these instructions while taking Shiokem Tablet:

• Follow the dosage and timing instructions provided by your doctor precisely.

• Do not change or exceed the prescribed dose without consulting your doctor.

• Consult your doctor before discontinuing the medication; do not stop taking it without their guidance.

• Adhere to the dietary recommendations given by your doctor.

Shiokem Tablet is taken orally.

Tolvaptan (15 mg), the active ingredient in Shiokem Tablet, works in your body in two specific ways:

• Selective Vasopressin Blockage: Tolvaptan works by selectively blocking the binding of vasopressin (an antidiuretic hormone) to V2 receptors in your kidneys. Vasopressin is responsible for water reabsorption.

• Increased Sodium Concentration: By inhibiting water reabsorption in the kidney tubules, Tolvaptan promotes increased excretion of free water (a process called aquaresis). This reduces the amount of water reabsorbed back into your bloodstream and helps increase the concentration of sodium in your blood, thus managing hyponatremia effectively.

• Keep Shiokem Tablet in its original packaging to protect it from light and moisture.

• Store at a controlled room temperature of 20°C to 25°C.

• Keep the medicine away from children and pets for their safety.

• Always check the expiry date on the packet before using.

• If you're managing conditions like heart failure or liver cirrhosis with Shiokem Tablet, cut down on salty foods. Too much salt can worsen fluid build-up in your body.

• Hydration is key. Drink fluids when you feel thirsty but avoid alcohol as it might increase dehydration and electrolyte imbalance. But always consult with your doctor for personalised advice.
