Composition

Sofosbuvir (400 Mg) + Velpatasvir (100 Mg)

Sovihep V Tablet is an antiviral medication used in the treatment of chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection. It belongs to a class of medicines called nucleotide polymerase inhibitors, specifically designed to suppress the replication of the hepatitis C virus.

This tablet is also prescribed for various genotypes of HCV infection and may also be recommended for patients with liver cirrhosis or co-infection with HIV.

Before taking this medicine, you must consult your doctor, who will determine the appropriate dosage and duration of treatment based on your condition. Inform your doctor about any preexisting medical conditions, ongoing medications, or allergies. If you experience any side effects while on this medicine, notify your doctor immediately. Completing the prescribed course is crucial for achieving optimal results.

Sovihep V Tablet is used in the treatment of:

Chronic hepatitis C virus infection (various genotypes)
HCV infection in patients with liver cirrhosis (compensated or decompensated)
HCV co-infection with HIV in specific cases

Directions for Use of Sovihep V Tablet 28

Take Sovihep V Tablet with or without food, as directed by your doctor.
Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush, chew, or break it.

Sovihep V Tablet is taken orally.

Sovihep V Tablet may cause the following common side effects:

Fatigue
Headache
Nausea
Insomnia
Diarrhoea

Managing the Side Effects:

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless, which resolves when Sovihep V Tablet is discontinued. However, if you experience any serious side effects or worsening symptoms, please consult your doctor.

Here are some general guidelines for managing common side effects:

Fatigue: Rest and maintain hydration.
Nausea: Follow dietary guidelines as advised by your doctor.
Diarrhoea: Drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated.

If side effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor promptly.

Sovihep V Tablet contains two active ingredients as follows:

Sofosbuvir (400 mg): It works by Inhibiting the RNA polymerase enzyme (NS5B polymerase) essential for the replication of the hepatitis C virus. It suppresses viral replication, thereby reducing the viral load in the body. It also prevents the progression of liver damage and complications related to chronic HCV infection.
Velpatasvir (100 mg): It is an HCV NS5A inhibitor. It targets a protein called NS5A, which is used by the hepatitis C virus to replicate itself. By blocking this protein, Velpatasvir further inhibits viral replication.

Pregnancy

Sovihep V Tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy due to the potential risk of harm to the unborn baby, particularly when taken in combination with ribavirin. Women of childbearing potential must use reliable and effective contraception during treatment with Sovihep V Tablet, as well as for a period following the end of therapy, as recommended by their doctor.

Breastfeeding

It is not known whether Sovihep V Tablet or its metabolites pass into breast milk. Therefore, to ensure the safety of the nursing infant, breastfeeding should be avoided while taking this medication.

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption should be limited or avoided during treatment with Sovihep V Tablet. Chronic alcohol use can further strain the liver, potentially worsening liver damage or cirrhosis in patients with hepatitis C.

Liver

Patients with advanced liver disease, such as decompensated cirrhosis, require close medical supervision when taking Sovihep V Tablet. Liver function tests should be regularly monitored to assess the progression of liver disease and the impact of the tablet. In some cases, adjustments in the treatment regimen or additional therapies may be necessary.

Kidney

Caution is advised for patients with kidney impairment, particularly those with severe kidney disease or end-stage renal disease requiring dialysis. Impaired kidney function may lead to the accumulation of the drug in the body, increasing the risk of adverse effects. Dosage adjustments may be required, and kidney function should be regularly monitored during treatment.

Using Machines & Driving

Sovihep V Tablet may cause side effects such as fatigue, dizziness, or drowsiness, which could impair your ability to concentrate or react quickly. Patients are advised to avoid driving, operating heavy machinery, or engaging in activities requiring alertness if they experience these symptoms.

Allergy

Patients with a known allergy to sofosbuvir, velpatasvir or any other ingredients in Sovihep V Tablet should not take this medication. If any allergic reactions occur, discontinue the medication immediately and seek emergency medical attention.

Children

Sovihep V Tablet is not recommended for use in children under the age of 18, as the safety and efficacy of this medication have not been adequately studied in this age group. If a child requires treatment for hepatitis C, consult a pediatric specialist for appropriate alternatives or therapies specifically approved for pediatric use.

Older Patients

Older adults may be more susceptible to the side effects of Sovihep V Tablet due to age-related changes in liver and kidney function, as well as the potential for multiple coexisting medical conditions or concurrent medications. Doctors may adjust the treatment regimen based on the patient’s overall health status and tolerance to the medication.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Sovihep V Tablet may interact with following medicines when taken together with:

Antiarrhythmics such as Amiodarone: Increases the risk of severe bradycardia.
Anticonvulsants such as phenytoin and carbamazepine: Reduces the effectiveness of Sovihep V Tablet.
Antimycobacterials such as Rifampin: Reduces sofosbuvir plasma levels, leading to decreased efficacy.

Sovihep V Tablet may interact with following conditions:

Liver Disease: Patients with severe liver disease, particularly those with decompensated cirrhosis, should use Sovihep V Tablet cautiously under the strict supervision of a healthcare professional. Advanced liver conditions may alter the metabolism of this medication, potentially leading to reduced effectiveness or increased risk of side effects.
Kidney Disease: Patients with severe kidney disease, including those with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) requiring dialysis, need to use Sovihep V Tablet with extreme caution. The active metabolite of sofosbuvir is excreted primarily through the kidneys, and impaired kidney function may lead to drug accumulation in the bloodstream, increasing the likelihood of toxicity.

Daily Dose

The daily dose of Sovihep V Tablet should be taken as prescribed by your doctor. The dosage may change based on individual factors such as the severity of the condition and response to treatment. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

If you or someone else takes an excessive amount of Sovihep V Tablet by accident, inform your doctor immediately and follow his advice.

Missed Dose

If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Store Sovihep V Tablet below 30°C.
Keep it in its original packaging, protected from light and moisture.
Keep out of reach of children.
