Walacort Tablet 20

Walacort Tablet is used to manage the following conditions:

• Seasonal or perennial allergic rhinitis, types of allergies affecting the nose

• Bronchial asthma

• Medication hypersensitivity reactions

• Skin diseases like pemphigus and severe erythema multiforme (Stevens-Johnson syndrome)

• Endocrine disorders like primary or secondary adrenocortical insufficiency and congenital adrenal hyperplasia

• Gastrointestinal diseases like ulcerative colitis and regional enteritis

• Blood disorders like acquired haemolytic anaemia and idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura in adults

• Palliative management of leukaemia and lymphomas

• Acute exacerbations of multiple sclerosis and cerebral oedema associated with brain tumours

• Ophthalmic conditions unresponsive to topical corticosteroids like sympathetic ophthalmia and uveitis

• Renal diseases like idiopathic nephrotic syndrome or lupus erythematosus

• Respiratory diseases like symptomatic sarcoidosis, berylliosis, and aspiration pneumonitis

Follow these instructions while taking Walacort Tablet:

• Swallow whole with water.

• To minimise stomach discomfort, take with food.

• Do not crush or chew the tablet.

• Do not adjust dosage without consulting your doctor.

• If you plan to stop the medication, consult your doctor for guidance.

Walacort Tablet is taken orally.

Walacort Tablet contains betamethasone (0.5 mg), whose activity in the body can be explained as follows:

• Binding with glucocorticoid receptors: Betamethasone binds with specific receptors inside cells called glucocorticoid receptors, found in almost all cells in the body.

• Modulating gene transcription: The betamethasone-receptor complex moves into the nucleus of the cell where it influences the writing of genetic codes that control inflammatory processes.

• Reducing inflammation: By influencing genetic codes, betamethasone reduces the production of substances that cause inflammation such as prostaglandins, leukotrienes, and cytokines.

• Suppressing immune response: Betamethasone suppresses the immune system by affecting the function of certain types of white blood cells like T-lymphocytes, B-lymphocytes, and macrophages, key players in our body's defence mechanism.

• Store Walacort Tablet at 20°C to 25°C.

• Protect from light and moisture.

• Keep out of reach of children.

• Use before expiry date.

• For conditions like bronchial asthma, avoid exposure to allergens, pollutants and smoking as these can trigger symptoms.

• If you're managing gastrointestinal diseases such as ulcerative colitis with Walacort Tablet, follow a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains while limiting your intake of dairy products and spicy foods.
