Alpha Amylase + Papain

Dosage Forms Available

• Alpha Amylase + Papain is available in three different dosage forms for ingestion. They are available as tablets, capsules, and powders which are taken orally.

Age and Dose Restrictions

• Alpha Amylase + Papain is intended for use in adults and children above the age of 12 years.

Contraindications

• Alpha Amylase + Papain is contraindicated in patients with peptic ulcers, severe gastritis, haemophilia or other bleeding disorders.
• This combination is also contraindicated in patients with known allergies to either alpha-amylase or papain, as well as those allergic to pineapple or papaya, given that papain is derived from these fruits.

Other Medications to Avoid

• Alpha Amylase + Papain may interact with blood thinners (such as warfarin and heparin), and antibiotics (such as doxycycline and ciprofloxacin). It can also interact with antacids containing calcium or magnesium.

Overdose and Missed Dose

• In case of an overdose of Alpha Amylase + Papain, you might experience serious symptoms like severe stomach pain or diarrhoea. If you suspect an overdose, seek immediate medical attention.
• If you miss a dose of this medicine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule.

Management of Side Effects

Most side effects are temporary and generally harmless and resolve when discontinuing this medicine. However, if you experience any severe side effects or worsening of any of the symptoms, please consult your doctor. Tips for managing side effects include:

• For nausea: Take your medicine after meals to reduce the prospect of nausea.
• For diarrhoea: Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
• For abdominal cramps: Apply a warm pad to your stomach and rest.
• Allergic reactions: If you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, discontinue use and seek medical help immediately.

Use in Driving and Operating Machinery

• The use of Alpha Amylase + Papain does not generally affect your ability to drive or operate machinery. However, if you experience any side effects such as dizziness or confusion, avoid such activities until the side effects subside.

Use in Pregnancy and Lactation

• Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid using Alpha Amylase + Papain unless specifically recommended by their doctor.

Caution in Other Conditions

• People with pancreatic insufficiency, celiac disease, Crohn's disease or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) should exercise caution when using Alpha Amylase + Papain.

• Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and whole grains to support healthy digestion.
• Stay well-hydrated by drinking at least 8 glasses of water per day.
