Domperidone + Omeprazole

ANTIEMETIC/ANTACID

Uses of Domperidone + Omeprazole

  • Domperidone + Omeprazole is used together to treat conditions related to the digestive system, such as heartburn, indigestion, epigastric pain, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Domperidone helps improve gastric motility and reduce nausea, while Omeprazole reduces stomach acid production, providing relief from symptoms and promoting healing of the gastrointestinal tract.

Side effects of Domperidone + Omeprazole

  • Headache
  • Diarrhoea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Flatulence
  • Dry mouth

How Domperidone + Omeprazole works

  • Domperidone is a medication that helps prevent nausea and vomiting. It works by blocking dopamine receptors but doesn’t easily cross into the brain, so side effects like muscle spasms and tremors are very rare in adults. However, domperidone can increase the production of prolactin, a hormone from the pituitary gland. Its effectiveness in preventing nausea comes from its ability to speed up stomach emptying and block dopamine receptors in a part of the brain that triggers vomiting.
  • Omeprazole is a medication made up of two different forms of the same molecule. It reduces stomach acid by targeting the acid pump in the stomach's parietal cells. It works quickly and effectively by reversibly inhibiting the production of stomach acid.
