Pitavastatin is primarily used to manage high levels of cholesterol in the blood (hyperlipidemia), in adults and children above 6 years old, and is a member of the statin group of medicines.
It is also used as an adjunctive therapy alongside diet changes to reduce elevated total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, apolipoprotein B, and triglycerides in patients with primary hyperlipidemia or mixed dyslipidemia. Additionally, it finds use as an adjunctive therapy to diet and other LDL-lowering therapies in patients with Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH).

Pitavastatin is a type of cholesterol-lowering medicine known as a statin.
It works by inhibiting an enzyme called HMG-CoA reductase in the body. This enzyme plays a key role in the production of cholesterol. By blocking this enzyme, Pitavastatin effectively reduces the level of harmful low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides in your blood. At the same time, it increases the level of beneficial high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. This helps to maintain an optimum balance of cholesterol in your body and lower the risk of heart disease.
