CompositionAlex Junior Syrup is used to relieve a dry, irritating cough in children, along with cold and allergy symptoms such as sneezing and a runny nose. It is a combination medicine containing dextromethorphan, a cough suppressant, and chlorpheniramine, an antihistamine (anti-allergic).
This medicine also helps ease itchy, watery eyes and throat irritation linked to colds and respiratory allergies. It is meant for a dry cough, not a chesty cough with mucus. Shake the bottle well and give your child the exact dose prescribed by the doctor, using the measuring cup provided rather than a kitchen spoon.
Plenty of rest, warm fluids and a humidified room can help soothe your child's throat and ease coughing. Keeping your child away from smoke and dust may also help.
Before giving this medicine, tell the doctor about your child's health conditions, such as asthma or liver problems, and any other medicines they take, including other cough or cold remedies. This medicine may cause drowsiness. Contact the doctor if the cough lasts more than a week, comes with a high fever or breathing difficulty, or if your child seems unusually sleepy. Do not stop giving this medicine unless the doctor advises you to do so.
