Apigat 5 Tablet is used to prevent dangerous blood clots and stroke in adults with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, to treat and prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and for thromboprophylaxis following hip or knee replacement surgery.
It contains apixaban 5 mg, a direct Factor Xa inhibitor that reduces blood clotting without requiring routine blood monitoring. Take it as prescribed at the same time each day. Do not stop it without medical advice, as stopping increases the risk of clot formation and stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation.
Maintaining all follow-up appointments, informing any healthcare provider that you take this medicine before any procedure, and being alert to unusual bleeding all support safe treatment alongside this medicine.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor about any bleeding disorders, severe kidney or liver disease, mechanical heart valves, other anticoagulant or antiplatelet medicines, or planned surgery. There is an antidote available for life-threatening or uncontrolled bleeding, although access may vary depending on the healthcare setting. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
