CompositionAricep 5 Tablet 10 is used to treat the symptoms of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease, such as memory loss, confusion and difficulty with everyday tasks. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing donepezil, which belongs to a class of medicines called cholinesterase inhibitors.
This medicine increases the level of acetylcholine, a brain chemical involved in memory and thinking. It can help with symptoms but does not cure Alzheimer's disease or stop it progressing. Take it at bedtime, with or without food, as prescribed; your doctor may increase the dose after a few weeks.
A regular daily routine, mental and social activities, and support from family or carers with medicines and appointments can help people living with dementia.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have a heart condition such as a slow or irregular heartbeat, a stomach ulcer, asthma or COPD, epilepsy, or difficulty passing urine, and about other medicines you take, especially painkillers and medicines for heart rhythm. Tell the doctor or dentist that you take it before any operation. Seek medical help if there is fainting, a very slow heartbeat, black stools or a fit (seizure). Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
