Azikem 500 Tablet is used in the management of the following:

• Respiratory tract infections

• Skin and soft tissue infections

• Urethritis and cervicitis

• Genital ulcer disease in men

• Take Azikem 500 Tablet ideally on an empty stomach, either an hour before a meal or two hours afterwards.

• Swallow the tablet whole. Avoid crushing, breaking or chewing it.

• Use this medicine regularly at evenly timed intervals as advised by your doctor.

• Even if you feel better, don't stop taking Azikem 500 Tablet until your prescribed course is finished. Stopping prematurely may cause the infection to return or worsen.

Azikem 500 Tablet is taken orally.

The active ingredient in Azikem 500 Tablet is azithromycin (500 mg). Here's how it works:

• Binding to Bacteria: Azithromycin binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria. The 50S subunit is a part of the protein-making machine inside bacterial cells, so when azithromycin binds to it, it interferes with protein production.

• Prevention of Protein Synthesis: By binding to the 50S subunit, azithromycin prevents the synthesis of essential proteins required by bacteria for vital functions. Without these proteins, bacteria can't grow or multiply.

• Inhibition of Bacterial Growth: Once protein synthesis is blocked, bacterial growth is inhibited which stops the infection from spreading. This allows the body's immune system to eliminate the remaining bacteria.

• Broad-spectrum Antibiotic Action: Azithromycin has shown activity against a wide range of bacteria, including both gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, as well as atypical pathogens like Mycoplasma pneumoniae and Chlamydia trachomatis.
