Cefoprox CV-325 tablet has two active ingredients:

• Cefpodoxime Proxetil (200 mg): As a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, cefpodoxime proxetil acts by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls. It binds to and inactivates penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) that are critical for the formation of peptidoglycan in bacterial cell walls. By inhibiting PBPs, the cell wall weakens, leading to cell lysis and the death of the bacteria.
• Clavulanic Acid (125 mg): Although clavulanic acid has little antimicrobial activity on its own, it's a powerful inhibitor of many beta-lactamase enzymes produced by bacteria resistant to penicillins and cephalosporins. Clavulanic acid inactivates these enzymes, thereby preventing them from destroying cefpodoxime's beta-lactam ring. This action protects cefpodoxime from degradation and restores its effectiveness against bacteria that would otherwise be resistant.
