This medicine works by blocking histamine, the natural chemical released during an allergic reaction, which eases sneezing, itching, nasal congestion and watery eyes. It is also used for the prevention of certain types of migraine headaches when prescribed. Take it exactly as advised by your doctor, and use the dose and duration your doctor prescribes.
Identifying and avoiding your personal allergy triggers, such as dust, pollen or specific foods, can help reduce symptoms. If it makes you drowsy or dry-mouthed, avoid driving or tasks that need mental alertness and avoid alcohol.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, difficulty passing urine, asthma, or liver or kidney problems. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless your doctor specifically advises it.
