Cyclopentolate (1 %)

Cyclopen Eye Drops belong to a group of medicines called mydriatics and cycloplegics. It is used for diagnostic purposes during an eye examination for pupil dilation and to block ciliary muscle (the eye muscles that control the lens's shape). This allows the accurate assessment of the eye and refractive errors.

These eye drops are meant for topical ophthalmic use only. Some side effects may be noted with the use of these eye drops, which should be timely informed to a doctor. Any allergy to these eye drops, or any other component of these drops, existing diseases, and other ongoing medications should also be brought to the notice of your doctor before these eye drops are prescribed to you.

Cyclopen Eye Drops are used in the followng conditions:

Diagnostic purposes during eye examination for pupil dilation (mydriasis)
Block the eye muscles that control the lens's shape (cycloplegia)

Directions for Use of Cyclopen 1 % Eye Drop 5 ML

Cyclopen Eye Drops are meant for topical ophthalmic use.
Shake well before use.
Wash your hands before using the eye drops.
Tilt your head backwards and gently pull down the lower eyelid until there is a small pocket.
Turn the bottle upside down and gently squeeze it to release drops into the eye. Let go of the lower lid and close your eyes for 30 seconds. Repeat the same for the other eye if it also needs treatment.
To minimise absorption into the bloodstream, gently press one finger near the inner corner of the eye, close to the nose, immediately after administering the drops.
If a drop misses your eye, try again.
Do not touch the tip of the dropper to avoid contamination.

Cyclopen Eye Drops are meant for topical ophthalmic use only.

Side Effects of Cyclopen 1 % Eye Drop 5 ML

The common side effects of Cyclopen Eye Drops include:

Increased intraocular pressure
Burning
Sensitivity to light
Blurred vision
Eye irritation
Dizziness
Restlessness

Managing the Side Effects:

Most of the side effects are resolved by discontinuing eye drops are temporary and do not require medical attention in most cases. In case any of these side effects persist or worsen, contact your doctor regarding the same.

Cyclopen Eye Drops contain the following component:

Cyclopentolate hydrochloride (1% w/v): It is a mydriatic that acts by blocking specific receptors found in the eye. This relaxes or provides short-term paralysis of the eye muscles for diagnosis.

Pregnancy

Cyclopen Eye Drops are not recommended during pregnancy unless your doctor indicates. Inform your doctor that you are pregnant before these drops are prescribed to you during pregnancy.

Breastfeeding

Cyclopen Eye Drops should be used cautiously by breastfeeding women. It may pass into the breastmilk. Use these drops only after consulting a doctor regarding the risks and benefits of their use.

Allergy

If you are allergic to cyclopentolate or any components of these eye drops, inform your doctor before starting these drops, and avoiding their use in such cases is preferable.

Children

Cyclopen Eye Drops can be used in children under 6 years. Consult your doctor for the dosage before using these drops in children. These drops should not be used in children with brain damage or those experiencing seizures or fits.

Older Patients

Older patients with increased eye pressure should cautiously use Cyclopen Eye Drops.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Cyclopen Eye Drops can interact with medications, including

Antihistamines such as diphenhydramine. The concomitant use of antishitamines and these eye drops can increase the risk of potential additive effects on pupil dilation.
Anti-psychotics such as butyrophenones and phenothiazines. The concomitant use can increase the risk of side effects, including blurred vision.
Tricyclic antidepressants such as amitriptyline, lofepramine, and trimipramine. The concomitant use can increase the risk of side effects.
Adamantanes such as amantadine, used to treat influenza A and Parkinson’s disease. The concomitant use can increase the risk of side effects.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Cyclopen Eye Drops can interact with diseases, including:

Glaucoma: These drops may worsen the existing condition.
Enlarged prostate: These drops may cause urinary retention and exacerbate the existing condition.
Paralytic ileus (loss of normal gut movement resulting in intestinal blockage): These drops may cause reduce gastrointestinal motility and exacerbate the existing condition.
Heart problems: These drops may cause irregular heart rate as a side effect and worsen the existing condition.
Ataxia (unsteadiness and coordination problems): These drops may cause ataxia as a rare side effect and worsen the condition.
Eye inflammation: It increases the risk of absorption of these drops into the bloodstream.

Daily Dose

Instil the recommended dose of Cyclopen Eye Drops as directed by your doctor. The dosage may change based on individual factors such as the severity of the condition and response to treatment. It is important to follow the prescribed dosage and not exceed it without consulting your doctor.

Over Dose

In case you happen to put a few extra drops of this medicine in your eye, do not panic. Rinse your eyes with clean water at room temperature, and do not put in any more drops until it is time for your next regular dose. If any symptoms persist or worsen, inform your doctor. The prolonged use of these drops can cause eye irritation, excessive blood in the vessels of the eye, conjunctivitis, oedema (excessive fluid in the eye) and inflammation of the eyes. So it is recommended to adhere to the prescribed duration to avoid these side effects.

Missed Dose

If you forgot to instil Cyclopen Eye Drops, use them as soon as you remember. If the time for the next dosage is close, it is recommended to skip the missed one now and resume your regular dosage pattern. Never increase your dosage without consulting your doctor.

Store this medicine at a temperature below 30 ºC.
Protect it from sunlight.
Keep Cyclopen Eye Drops away from children.

If you wear contact lenses, wait at least 15 minutes after removal of lenses before application.
Put your contact lenses back 15 minutes afterwards.
Avoid sunlight while using these drops, or wear sunglasses to protect your eyes from bright sunlight during the period of sensitivity.
Minimise touching or rubbing your eyes to reduce the risk of irritation while using these drops.
