CompositionCytogard OD Capsule is used as an add-on treatment to prevent chest pain (stable angina) in adults whose angina is not well controlled by, or who cannot take, other angina medicines. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing trimetazidine in a once-daily modified-release form, and belongs to a class of medicines called metabolic anti-anginal agents.
This medicine helps heart muscle cells use oxygen more efficiently, which can reduce how often angina occurs. It does not relieve an attack that has already started, so keep your fast-acting spray or tablet for attacks. Take it once a day with a meal, swallowed whole, as prescribed. Your doctor will review whether it is helping after a few months.
Not smoking, eating a heart-healthy diet, staying active within your limits and controlling blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar help protect your heart.
Do not take this medicine if you have Parkinson's disease or its symptoms, tremor, restless legs or other movement disorders, or severe kidney disease. Before starting, tell your doctor about any kidney problems, and if you are older, as the dose may need adjusting. It can cause dizziness and drowsiness, so do not drive if affected. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Stop and contact your doctor if you notice shaking, stiffness, slow movements, unsteadiness or falls. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
