Defcort 6 Tablet is used to treat various inflammatory and autoimmune conditions such as asthma, arthritis, allergies, and skin disorders. It contains deflazacort, a corticosteroid that works by reducing inflammation and suppressing the immune system's response.

It is used to treat various autoimmune diseases such as systemic lupus erythematosus, autoimmune hepatitis, sarcoidosis, joint and muscle diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, and allergies & asthma. It is also used in cancer treatment.

Defcort 6 Tablet is used to treat inflammatory conditions like asthma, arthritis, and allergies. It also manages autoimmune diseases, including lupus and rheumatoid arthritis, and is effective in treating Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD). Additionally, it aids in inflammation control during cancer treatment and other related disorders.

Take the tablet with a glass of water.
Swallow the tablet as a whole, do not crush or chew it.
This medication can be taken with or without food, but taking it at a fixed time is advisable.

Defcort 6 Tablet should be taken orally.

Common side effects of Defcort 6 Tablet are:

Headache
Upset stomach
Increased weight
Mood swings
Irregular periods

Managing the Side Effects:

Most of the side effects of Defcort 6 Tablet are usually mild and often do not require urgent medical attention. They improve with continued usage of the medicine. However, if the side effects persist, worsen, or something other than that listed above occurs, inform your doctor immediately.

Defcort 6 Tablet contains the following component:

Deflazacort (6 mg): It is a corticosteroid. After entering the body, it is converted to the active form by binding to receptors to express anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects on the body. The anti-inflammatory effect is due to the inhibition of certain chemicals which cause inflammation. Immunosuppressive property reduces the sensitivity of the immune system.

Pregnancy

Defcort 6 Tablet will be prescribed by your doctor during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

Breastfeeding

Defcort 6 Tablet is not recommended in breastfeeding women as it can pass through breast milk and harm the baby.

Alcohol

It is not advisable to take Defcort 6 Tablet and alcohol together as this may worsen the side effects of this tablet.

Liver

No dose adjustment is required in patients with mild to moderate liver impairment while taking Defcort 6 Tablet. However, caution should be taken in patients with severe liver diseases.

Kidney

No dose adjustment is required in patients having renal diseases.

Using Machines & Driving

Defcort 6 Tablet does not affect your ability to drive and operate machinery. However, if you experience dizziness after taking this tablet, do not drive or operate machinery.

Allergy

If you are allergic to deflazacort or any other constituents of this medicine, do not take it. Read the label carefully before using this medication.

Children

Defcort 6 Tablet is not recommended in children under 5 years of age.

Older Patients

Defcort 6 Tablet is given in disease of children and adults and is not required in older patients.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Defcort 6 Tablet can interact with medications, including:

Anti-tuberculosis medications like rifampicin, rifabutin can reduce the effectiveness of this medicine.
Pain-relieving medicines like carbamazepine can reduce the effects of this tablet.
Anti-seizure medications like phenobarbitone and phenytoin can decrease the effect of this tablet.

Drug-Food Interactions

Defcort 6 Tablet can interact with foods, including:

Grapefruit juice: Avoid taking grapefruit juice with this medicine as it can affect the absorption of the same.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Defcort 6 Tablet can interact with diseases, including:

Diabetes: This tablet can raise the sugar levels in the body.
Cataract or glaucoma: This medication if used for long-term can cause or worsen the existing condition.
Hypothyroidism: This tablet can have enhanced effects in hypothyroidism.
Herpes: This medicine can cause side effects such as corneal perforation in ocular herpes patients.
