Fosphen 150 MG Injection 2 ML

Fosphen Injection is used for the following:

• Managing generalized tonic-clonic status epilepticus: This condition involves a prolonged seizure or multiple seizures without a return to consciousness in between.

• Preventing and controlling seizures during neurosurgery: It's used in operations on the brain to prevent the occurrence of sudden, uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain.

• Short-term replacement for oral phenytoin: When swallowing tablets isn't possible temporarily, this injection can be used as an alternative.

Administer Fosphen Injection as instructed below:

• Ensure that this medicine is administered only by a healthcare professional.

• It should be given intravenously or intramuscularly based on your doctor's advice.

• Continuous monitoring of ECG, blood pressure, and respiratory function is required during IV infusion.

Fosphen Injection is administered intravenously.

Fosphen Injection contains fosphenytoin (150 mg) which functions in the body as follows:

• Conversion to Phenytoin: Once administered, fosphenytoin is rapidly converted to phenytoin by blood and tissue phosphatases. Phenytoin is an active medicine that helps in managing seizures.

• Stabilisation of Hyperexcitability: Phenytoin works by stabilising the threshold against hyperexcitability caused by excessive stimulation or environmental changes capable of reducing membrane sodium gradient. This includes the reduction of post-tetanic potentiation at synapses, helping to control seizures.

• Inhibition of Brain Stem Centres: Phenytoin reduces the maximal activity of brain stem centres responsible for the tonic phase of generalised tonic-clonic seizures.

• Prolonged Refractory Period: At higher therapeutic doses, phenytoin also inhibits synaptic transmission and prolongs the effective refractory period in the motor cortex, which assists in controlling seizures.

• Store Fosphen Injection in a cool place, ideally between 2-8°C.

• Keep it shielded from light and avoid freezing.

• Always keep this medicine out of the reach of children.

• It's important to use Fosphen Injection before its expiry date.

• Once opened, the product should be used within 4 hours.

• Since Fosphen Injection is used to manage seizures, try to maintain a regular sleep pattern as irregular or inadequate sleep can trigger seizures.

• Limit your intake of caffeine and alcohol as these substances can interfere with your medication and potentially increase seizure activity. Always consult your doctor for individualised advice tailored to your specific needs.
