Ganaton is primarily used for the treatment of nausea and vomiting. However, it is also used to treat “anorexia”, which is an eating disorder associated with significant mental health implications. Ganaton can also alleviate symptoms like heartburn, upper abdominal pain or discomfort, and early feeling of fullness during or after a meal. Additionally, Ganaton is also used for stomach fullness due to the build-up of gas.
The main active substance of Ganaton is itopride hydrochloride. It allows the food to move easily through the stomach and controls the vomiting centre of the brain. Ganaton is successful in emptying both solid and liquid contents of the stomach in gastroparesis patients. The effect of this medicine starts 30-60 minutes after consumption.
Ganaton tablets are composed of components which enhance gastrointestinal tract motility and are called prokinetic agents. They promote gastrointestinal movement and speed up the emptying of the stomach. Additionally, it also works on the vomiting centre of the brain region and inhibits the sensation of vomiting.
Its dual mechanism of action and the least harmful effects makes Ganaton a unique prokinetic medicine. The effect of this medicine lasts for nearly 4-6 hours, but it may vary with individuals.
