CompositionIsmo 10 Tablet is used to prevent chest pain (angina) in people with coronary artery disease. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing isosorbide mononitrate 10mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called nitrates.
This medicine relaxes and widens the blood vessels, improving blood flow to the heart and reducing its workload, so angina attacks happen less often. It does not relieve an attack that has already started. It is usually taken daily as prescribed.
Not smoking, eating a heart-healthy diet, staying active within your limits and controlling blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar help protect your heart.
Do not take this medicine with medicines for erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil, or with riociguat, as together they can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure. Do not combine it with nicorandil unless your doctor advises. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, anaemia, a recent head injury, glaucoma, or narrowing of a heart valve, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help if chest pain gets worse or lasts longer. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly unless your doctor advises you to do so.
