CompositionIsordil 10 Tablet is used to prevent chest pain (angina) in people with coronary artery disease. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing isosorbide dinitrate 10mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called nitrates.
This medicine relaxes and widens the blood vessels, improving blood flow to the heart and reducing its workload, so angina attacks happen less often. It is taken regularly to prevent attacks and does not relieve an attack that has already started, so keep your fast-acting spray or tablet for attacks. Take it at the times prescribed, which usually include a daily nitrate-free period so that the medicine keeps working.
Not smoking, eating a heart-healthy diet, staying active within your limits and managing stress help reduce angina. Avoid alcohol, which can increase dizziness.
Do not take this medicine with medicines for erectile dysfunction such as sildenafil, tadalafil or vardenafil, or with riociguat, as together they can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have low blood pressure, severe anaemia, a recent head injury, glaucoma, or narrowing of a heart valve, and about other medicines you take. Headache is common at first and usually eases. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help if chest pain gets worse, lasts longer or becomes more frequent. Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly unless your doctor advises you to do so.
