CompositionIvepred 4 Tablet is used to reduce inflammation and calm the immune system in a range of conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, severe asthma and severe allergic reactions. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing methylprednisolone 4mg, which belongs to a class of medicines called corticosteroids (steroids).
This medicine is also used for certain skin, eye, bowel, kidney and blood disorders where the immune system needs to be suppressed. The 4mg strength allows the dose to be adjusted precisely and reduced gradually. Take it with or after food, usually in the morning, exactly as prescribed. Do not stop it suddenly after more than a few days of use; your doctor will reduce the dose gradually.
Eating a diet with enough calcium and vitamin D, limiting salt and sugar, and doing weight-bearing exercise as advised help protect your bones and health during treatment. Monitor your blood sugar if you have diabetes.
Steroids can lower your resistance to infections and hide their signs. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have an infection such as tuberculosis, diabetes, high blood pressure, a stomach ulcer, osteoporosis, glaucoma or cataracts, depression or other mental health problems, or heart or kidney disease, and about other medicines you take. Avoid contact with people who have chickenpox, shingles or measles if you have not had them, and do not have live vaccines without asking your doctor. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Carry a steroid card, and tell any doctor or dentist that you take it. Seek medical help for fever or signs of infection, black stools, blurred vision, severe mood changes or thoughts of self-harm. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
