Kerendia 10 mg Tablet is a medicine used to slow the progression of chronic kidney disease in adults with type 2 diabetes. It helps lower the risk of kidney failure, heart attacks, and hospitalisation for heart failure.

It contains finerenone 10 mg, a non-steroidal mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist. Take it once daily with or without food as prescribed. Regular blood tests to monitor potassium levels and kidney function will be conducted by your doctor.

Following your prescribed diabetic diet, limiting potassium-rich salt substitutes as advised, maintaining good blood pressure control, and attending all lab tests support kidney protection alongside this medicine.

Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have high blood potassium levels, severe kidney failure, or adrenal problems. Inform your doctor right away if you notice muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, or unusual tiredness.

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet is used in adults with chronic kidney disease associated with type 2 diabetes to reduce kidney and cardiovascular risks.

Uses of Kerendia 10 mg Tablet are:

CKD Progression: Slows sustained worsening of kidney function and reduces the risk of kidney failure.
Cardiovascular Protection: Reduces the risk of cardiovascular death, non-fatal heart attack and hospitalisation for heart failure in suitable patients.

Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
You can take the tablet with or without food.
Do not crush, chew, or split the tablet.
Follow your doctor’s prescribed dosage carefully.

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet is taken orally.

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet may cause some side effects that are usually mild and go away as your body adjusts to the medicine.

A few Common Side Effects of Kerendia 10 mg Tablet:

Metabolic: High blood potassium levels (hyperkalaemia). Blood tests will monitor your potassium regularly.
Cardiovascular: Low blood pressure (hypotension) causing mild dizziness.
Electrolyte: Low blood sodium levels (hyponatraemia).

Hyperkalemia: Avoid potassium-rich foods and consult your doctor about dietary modifications.
Hypotension: Stay hydrated and avoid sudden position changes to prevent dizziness.

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet contains Finerenone (10 mg), which works as follows:

It works by selectively blocking the mineralocorticoid receptor, reducing inflammation and fibrosis in the kidneys and heart. This helps slow CKD progression and mitigates cardiovascular risks associated with type 2 diabetes.

Pregnancy

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consult your doctor before taking Kerendia 10 mg Tablet. This medicine should only be taken during pregnancy if your doctor considers it necessary.

Breastfeeding

If you are breastfeeding, inform your doctor before taking Kerendia 10 mg Tablet. The use of this medicine is not recommended for breastfeeding women.

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption may increase the risk of side effects such as dizziness or low blood pressure. Avoid or limit alcohol intake during treatment.

Liver

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet is not recommended for use in patients with severe liver impairment. Patients with mild to moderate liver impairment should take this medicine with caution. Kidney

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet is primarily prescribed for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) associated with type 2 diabetes. Use In Driving And Operating Machinery

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet may cause dizziness. Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medication affects you.

Allergy

Do not use Kerendia 10 mg Tablet if you are allergic to Finerenone or any of its components. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of an allergic reaction, such as rash, itching, or difficulty breathing.

Children

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet is not recommended for patients under 18 years of age.

Older Patients

Elderly patients should use Kerendia 10 mg Tablet with caution due to the increased risk of hyperkalemia. Regular monitoring is essential.

Drug-Drug Interactions

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet interacts with the following medicines:

Strong CYP3A4 Inhibitors such as ketoconazole, and clarithromycin: Concomitant use is contraindicated as it increases Finerenone levels.
Moderate or Weak CYP3A4 Inhibitors such as verapamil, diltiazem: Monitor potassium levels and adjust Kerendia 10 mg Tablet dosage as needed.
Potassium-Sparing Diuretics or Supplements: The concomitant use can increased the risk of hyperkalemia.

Drug-Food Interactions

Avoid grapefruit or grapefruit juice during treatment as it may increase Finerenone levels.

Drug-Disease Interactions

Kerendia 10 mg Tablet interacts with the following diseases:

Adrenal Insufficiency: Avoid use in patients with adrenal insufficiency.
Hyperkalemia: Patients with baseline high potassium levels should be closely monitored.

Daily Dose

Take the daily recommended dose of Kerendia 10 mg Tablet as directed by your doctor. The dosage may vary depending on factors like your health condition and how you respond to the medicine. Make sure you stick to the prescribed dosage and consult your doctor before making any changes.

Over Dose
