CompositionMesacol Tablet is used to treat inflammatory bowel disease, particularly ulcerative colitis. It is a single-ingredient aminosalicylate containing mesalazine (also called mesalamine).
It treats mild to moderate flares and helps maintain remission once symptoms are under control, and a specialist may also use it in selected cases of Crohn's disease. Swallow the tablet whole unless the product instructions say otherwise, in the dose, frequency and duration prescribed by your doctor. Continue it even when you feel well to help prevent relapse.
Drink enough fluids, especially during loose motions, and follow the diet and monitoring plan recommended by your gastroenterology team.
Before starting, tell your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease or an allergy to aspirin-like medicines, and about all other medicines, supplements or herbal products you take. Seek medical advice for worsening abdominal pain, bloody diarrhoea, chest pain, reduced urine or a severe rash. Follow the prescribed dose, frequency and duration, report persistent or serious side effects, and do not stop the medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
