Nitazoxanide (500 Mg)

Nizonide 500 tablet is an antiparasitic drug used for treatment of diarrhoea. It fights with parasitic infection of the intestine. Examples of parasites include intestinal helminths i.e. roundworm, hookworm and protozoan parasites i.e. Giardia intestinalis, Entamoeba histolytica.

Doctors suspect protozoal infection in the intestine in case of prolonged diarrhoea lasting more than a week. Drinking contaminated water or infected soil can lead to parasitic infection.

Lack of sanitation and lack of clean drinking water facilities in developing countries are the main causes of infections. Developing countries of tropical and subtropical regions are affected the most. Tab Nizonide 500 tablet is a prescription drug and is prescribed as first line treatment for parasitic infection. It should be used strictly as per doctor’s advice.

Nizonide 500 tablet is used to treat intestinal parasite infection.

Directions for Use of Nizonide 500 Tablet 6

Nizonide 500 tablet should be taken only through a doctor's prescription.
Swallow the tablet as a whole with water. Do not chew or break the tablet.
This medication should be taken with food.
It should be taken as advised by the doctor.

Nizonide 500 tablets are administered orally.

Nizonide 500 tablet side effects include;

Nausea: The person may experience frequent urge to vomit, sometimes leading to vomiting after taking medicine.
Abdominal cramps/Stomach pain: Patients may also experience discomfort or pain in the stomach.
Headache: Patients may feel pain in their head after taking this medication.
Discoloured urine: Medication may cause urine to change its color

These side effects may subside on their own after a period of time. In case of persistent problems, visit the nearest healthcare centre.

Managing the Side Effects:

Nausea: Nausea can be controlled by gradually drinking more water. Ginger and lemon also help in managing nausea.
Abdominal cramps/Stomach pain: Try a heating pad for stomach pain. Chamomile or peppermint tea helps in relieving bloating.
Headache: Take proper rest while using this medication. It is better to get some extra sleep to control the headache.
Discoloured urine: Consuming enough water and fluids can restore urine colour.

Nizonide 500 tablet includes nitazoxanide as the active ingredient.
Nitazoxanide belongs to the class of antiprotozoal drugs.
Nizonide 500 tablet is a broad spectrum anti-infective drug.
This drug interferes with growth and development of parasites. In doing so, this medication kills the parasite.

Nizonide 500 tablet can be taken during pregnancy with a doctor's prescription.

Breastfeeding

Nizonide 500 tablet is not known to pass into breast milk and generally can be used while breastfeeding. However, it is always advisable to consult with a doctor for personalised advice regarding the use of medications during breastfeeding.

Alcohol

Avoid alcohol while on this medication. Alcohol consumption may worsen side effects i.e. headache.

Over Dose

Take the dose strictly as prescribed by the doctor. In case of overdose, seek medical attention immediately or call National Poisons Information Center (NPIC) on their toll free number. Symptoms of overdose include nausea, abdominal cramps/stomach pain, headache, and discoloured urine.

Missed Dose

If you missed a dose of Nizonide 500 tablet, take it as soon as you remember. In case it is already time for your next dose, take only the missed dose and not the next one. Never double your dosage without consulting your doctor.

This medicine should be stored at room temperature (below 30ºC).
Store it in a cool and dry place away from moisture.
Keep the medicine away from children.
Do not use this medicine past the expiry date.

Have a balanced and healthy diet.
Get enough sleep so that your body gets sufficient rest and relief from pain.
Eat easy to digest food to help with diarrhoea.
Drink enough water and increase fluid intake to make up for loss of electrolytes in the body.
Take enough green vegetables and fruits in your diet.
Avoid cigarette smoking and drinking alcohol.
