CompositionNormaxin-MB 200 Capsule SR is used to relieve abdominal pain, cramps and bloating caused by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It is a single-ingredient medicine containing mebeverine in a sustained-release form, and belongs to a class of medicines called antispasmodics.
This medicine relaxes the muscles of the bowel wall, easing spasms without affecting normal bowel movements. It is also used for other spasm-related pain of the gut. Swallow the capsule whole, usually about 20 minutes before a meal, as prescribed by your doctor.
Eating regular meals, identifying and limiting trigger foods, increasing fibre gradually, drinking enough water and managing stress can help control IBS symptoms.
Before taking this medicine, tell your doctor if you have liver or kidney disease or porphyria, and about other medicines you take. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Contact your doctor if you notice blood in your stools, unexplained weight loss, fever, or a change in bowel habit that lasts more than a few weeks, as these need checking. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
