CompositionParkin Tablet is used to relieve tremor and stiffness in Parkinson's disease and to control movement side effects caused by certain medicines, such as antipsychotics. It is a single-ingredient medicine containing trihexyphenidyl (benzhexol), which belongs to a class of medicines called anticholinergics (antimuscarinics).
This medicine helps restore the balance of chemical messengers in the brain that control movement. It is especially useful for shaking and for stiffness, muscle spasms and restlessness caused by other medicines. Take it with or after food, as prescribed; your doctor will start with a low dose and increase it slowly.
Staying as active as possible, physiotherapy and keeping cool in hot weather (as this medicine reduces sweating) can help. Eating fibre and drinking water can prevent constipation.
Older adults are more likely to develop confusion, memory problems or hallucinations with this medicine. Before starting, tell your doctor if you have glaucoma, difficulty passing urine or an enlarged prostate, bowel blockage, heart rhythm problems, or memory problems, and about other medicines you take. Do not stop it suddenly. It can cause blurred vision and drowsiness, so do not drive if affected, and avoid alcohol. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Seek medical help for confusion, hallucinations, eye pain, inability to pass urine or overheating. Do not stop taking this medicine unless your doctor advises you to do so.
